Introduction
Welcome to our Third grade classroom! This is the year we analyze fables and fairy tales, learn long division, the three branches of government, the solar system, animal habitats and eco systems, cursive writing, how to write three paragraph essays, and much, much, more!

Do come to class with the appropriate materials, the right attitude, and an open mind! Let us lead the way into creative exploration and learning!

Classroom Rules

  • Give eye contact to the speaker.
  • Follow teacher directions.
  • Keep voices and noise levels low.
  • Respect other people, their property, and space.
  • Work hard to finish your work carefully.
  • Listen with intent to learn.
Cool Collector's Cards
Every week, students will have the opportunity to earn cool collector's cards. These cool cards display pictorials and things that we have been learning throughout the week in class.
Student of the Week
Every week, I select one student who shows good citizenship and strong work ethics to be recognized as the Student of the Week. This student receives special perks that your student will GLADLY tell you about once he/she becomes a Student of the Week! Students of the Weeks also have lunch with me at the end of the month.
Behavior Cards
The student may receive warning cards with these symbols:
  1. a hand for not raising his/her hand
  2. footsteps for wondering around during classwork
  3. a chatterbox for talking at an inappropriate time
  4. an ear for not listening

Behavior letters are sent home every Friday. Your child must return it on Monday, signed.

If your child earns one behavior card, he/she can still earn Fun Friday given that all homework and classwork is completed. Be sure to check the back of the red folder for any "Incomplete Assignments", which are recorded DAILY.

Consequences
  1. The first time a student receives three or more cards in a week, the student will complete a behavior flow map and meet with the teacher to go over it. A parent signature is needed upon return.
  2. The second time a student receives three or more cards in one week: the student and the teacher will revisit the behavior flow map and make appropriate changes. A second copy will be sent help needing a parent signature.
  3. The third time a student receives three cards or more in one week, a parent conference will be scheduled.
Severe Disruptions
  1. Students who continually earn behavior cards for breaking classroom rules will be placed on a behavior contract. Parents will be notified.
  2. A phone call or letter may be sent home at any time. Please send it back with a signature and/or comments to let me know that you've been informed of the incident.
  3. A parent conference with the principal present may be scheduled to review misbehaviors.
Problem Solving
Our problem solving bus collects anonymous issues that occur throughout the week. I will call out issues weekly and we will work through these issues together as a class. In addition to solving daily issues, we also work on character education themes monthly.
